For this second partnership with Galerie ELHABIBI, BARNES has chosen the artist Raisa Gates (1991).
Raisa Gates is an American artist of Filipino descent, born in Denver, Colorado, in 1991. As a child, the daily ritual of drawing her family marked the beginning of her creative exploration. Having spent part of her adult life living a nomadic lifestyle, she initially worked as a photographer, passionate about portrait art and her personal history of lineage and self-portrait. Naturally drawn to visual creation, she returned to painting. Raisa’s artistic narrative is an intimate exploration of our connections with ourselves and others.
In her most recent exhibition, CONTEMPLATIONS (May 16 – June 11, 2024, Galerie ELHABIBI), Raisa Gates explores the spiritual quest through female characters captured in moments of deep reflection. Inspired by Buddhist philosophy and the work of Picasso, she captures the essence of stillness and silence. Each painting, adorned with a small terracotta flower, symbolizes universal hope. Raisa invites the viewer to introspection, celebrating serenity and inner balance. The natural and calming tones of her works reinforce the meditative and poetic aspect of her art.
Exclusively, you will have the chance to discover the artist’s latest works, painted this summer. This ambitious exhibition project is the natural continuation of a successful first collaboration. As an obvious partnership, BARNES combines art with luxury real estate, intending to showcase a new artist at BARNES Saint-Germain-des-Prés every three to four months, sharing this passion for art with a clientele sensitive to artistic expressions. With a strong commitment to supporting unique artistic approaches, this project also embodies the spirit of innovation and creativity at BARNES, a vision shared by Galerie ELHABIBI.
